For Maree and Herman, the best thing about living at Azure Blue Redcliffe retirement village is the community.

“I love the gym and the cafe, but really it’s the fellowship,” says Maree, who has lived on the Redcliffe Peninsula for 38 years. “It really is easy to make friends here.”

And there’s no shortage of ways to meet new people, with the cafe forming a central hub, hosting happy hour, Saturday morning teas and all manner of events organised by the residents.

Maree herself has held a high tea there, raising $2,300 for charity.

And there are multiple activities to enjoy – choir, tai chi, table tennis, movies, water aerobics, exercise groups and even a cardiac support group. There is also a hair salon at the village, visiting podiatrist, and bus trips to enjoy as far afield as Stradbroke Island and Eumundi.

Maree appreciates that everything is close by – the hospital, shops and her all-important bridge club. The village is just a stroll from dining options, too. “We’ve got restaurants aplenty – we can walk to them, have a drinkie and waddle home.”

The water is at the end of the street, and Maree and Herman’s apartment overlooks Redcliffe Paceway.

“There’s nothing nicer – imagine living by the ocean and waking up to the lovely clip-clop of the horses,” Maree says.

The couple have an eye for the future, too. They know that Blue Care’s residential aged care facility is on site should they ever need more care, and are pleased that the village has multiple public transport options nearby.

“None of us know when we’ll have to hand over our licence and here we can go in any direction right out from the door.”
